AI is everywhere now with every company trying to capitalize on the buzz word. But does this mean I can use it to design for my business? Specifically, can I really use AI to design my company’s logo? The short answer is “yes” but with consequences.

What is AI Design? (Artificial Intelligence)
First of all AI design can be good at times but what exactly is it doing to create the artwork designs? Well, AI algorythms study existing content and then try to create their own from it. This has caused much uproar especially from the art community due to their work being used for AI studying without the artists explicit permissions to do so. This is very troubling for legal reasons that many of us already know is a “red tape line” you never want to find yourself crossing into.
Artificial Intelligence can be very useful in many cases as I’ve used it even myself for things like lists and topic discussions. However, when it comes to designing, most who use AI don’t change the designs and artwork that it generates. They usually leave it as is. That too can be dangerous legally since it could potentially be ripping off someone elses work and passing it as AI generated content.
Why not use AI for Logos?
The reason for this has a lot to do with the above paragraph. You’re having an AI generated image created from the existing database it already studied. This means your logo will likely be one that it already over used or cliche in approach. This also means if it turns out perfect that you could potentially be representing your business with playgerized artwork which leaves you a short trip away from a lawsuit. We don’t want that at all.
When creating a logo the best solution is to contact a professional. But what if you don’t have the budget to invest into your logo being created by a studio or professional? Here’s a couple options that may help you get the results you need.
Create a logo using AI
AI is currently weak when it comes to designing a logo outright. However, you can use AI to give yourself ideas and lists on how to approach the logo creation process. You can use AI with prompts like “Give me a list of 10 words that are similar to “your word” that I can incorporate into a logos design” or you can also use one like “What are 3 objects I can use in a logo that “business category” would benefit to have in their logo design”. Obviously it doesn’t have to be exactly like my prompt but you get the point.
Using Artificial Intellegence for laying out lists and developing ideas can be very benefitial for creatives or even non-creatives. Either way though you will have to pay for a logo design. Whether it’s with your time or with your money, it will cost you something. What do you value more or what can you budget to use more of now?
Conclusion
Using AI to create logos is still not in the cards at the moment if you want something polished and original in it’s development and intend on designing. You can still definitely use AI for creating lists or idea concepts as a starting point to give your designer a more fleshed out idea of what you’re wanting for your logo. Either way, it will cost you either time or money and the result is up to you and your approach.
I hope this helps to give you a better direction on how you want to take on creating your businesses logo and the investment in your companies growth. Reach out if you have any questions!
